HelioFocus and IEC have a joint project that will eventually solar boost one of Israel electric company’s power plant in the southern part of Israel.
  • The Solar Research Facilities of the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) are among the most advanced laboratories in the world for concentrated solar energy research. A major feature of the Units is a Solar Power Tower containing a field of 64 large, multi-faceted mirrors (heliostats), each measuring 7 X 8 meters. Each heliostat tracks the movement of the sun independently and reflects its light onto a selected target on a 54-meter high tower containing five separate experimental stations, each of which can house several experiments. Light can be reflected toward any or all of these stations, allowing a number of experiments to be carried out simultaneously.
HelioFocus is utilizing this facility as a solar furnace and laboratory for experimenting and performing qualifications for system modules such as the Receiver. The company designed and built a fully functional test rig to support its research and development activities.

  • Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was established in 1969 with the aim to bring development to the Negev, a desert area comprising more than sixty percent of the country. The University was inspired by the vision of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, who believed that the future of the country lay in this region. The university, established a solar energy research facility and built a unique large dish concentrator for these purposes. HelioFocus is utilizing this dish as a sole player for conducting its research and development activities, mainly at system level, as part of the product validation process.

  • "BIRD Energy” is a program for U.S. - Israel joint renewable energy developments funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Israel Ministry of National Infrastructures and the BIRD Foundation. HelioFocus is collaborating with the California based Capstone Turbine Corporation to develop and commercialize a Solar-Hybrid Micro Turbine to fit the company's application for distributed power generation. The two companies were awarded the BIRD Energy grant for developing and commercializing a micro turbine last year. As part of this process, HelioFocus successfully completed a Solar only micro turbine (C65) testing process at the Weizmann Institute of Science, producing electricity and feeding the grid.
